There’s gold in them Loire hills

2006 Domaine des Dorices Cuvée Hermine D’Or Sur Lie, Muscadet Sèvre et Maine, France $14.95 LCBO #692707

This week I wanted to try a wine from somewhere new. The 2006 Domaine des Dorices is a really delicious white wine from the Muscadet Sèvre et Maine appellation in France’s Loire Valley.

Made from the Melon grape, this wine has well-rounded flavours of lime and grapefruit with strong mineral notes. Hands down…this is the perfect wine for raw oysters.

One thing you will note about this wine is the words “sur lie” on the label. This fancy French term simply means that when this wine was aged, it was kept in contact with dead yeast cells adding complexity to the final product.

At $14.95, this is a fantastic value. If you want to expand your pallet and are looking for something interesting to try, this is a wine for you…but that’s just my opinion. Let me know what you think.
